Norway Constitution Day (Re-opening party)
Today’s Doodle pays tribute to Norway Constitution Day, also known as Syttende Mai, a national holiday observed on the anniversary of the signing of the modern constitution. Whether you’re within Norwegian borders or an expat living abroad, national pride is celebrated by Norwegians everywhere.
Nordic Bar will be back with a bang on 17 May to celebrate Norway’s Constitution Day 2021 and our big reopening party. Nordic will be decorated in true Norwegian style with flags, hats, face paint and a few more surprises along the way! Our infamous Happy Hour is also coming back to start your evening in a real Nordic way. Get your long horns ready and your Viking hats fitted, as this is guaranteed to be a return to remember!
In 1833, Norway’s national poet Henrik Wergeland gave a speech for the country, and from this occasion, May 17 has been celebrated as a national day. In 1870, the holiday became more focused on children based on an initiative led by the author of Norway’s national anthem, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. Although people of all ages celebrate Constitution Day, children continue to be the center of today’s holiday.
The Norwegian flag, which is depicted in the Doodle artwork, will be seen all over the country. A blue Nordic cross outlined in white against a red background of the flag reflects the history and pride of the Scandinavian country.
