The International Day of Older Persons is observed on October 1 each year.
On December 14, 1990 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons as recorded in Resolution 45/106. The holiday was observed for the first time on October 1, 1991.

The theme of the International Day of Older Persons 2021 is “Digital Equity for All Ages”. In this year, this theme is very important for older citizens which affirms the need for access in the digital world. How can elderly citizens participate the digital media?
The holiday is celebrated by raising awareness about issues affecting the elderly, such as senescence and elder abuse. It is also a day to appreciate the contributions that older people make to society.
This day is very special for older citizens in the world. In this day, every body gives greetings to the older citizens. They go to the holy places and pray. Many non profit organizations and other organizations arrange event and gives speeches on the same. Elderly people share their experience on this program. People spend time with their grandparents and visit the old age home and N.G.O’s. They cook special recipes for them. We should always care to our older members of the family. This day reminds us the same.
