Vernadsky Research Base
The Vernadsky Research Base (Ukrainian: Антарктична станція Академік Вернадський) is a Ukrainian Antarctic Station situated at Marina Point on Galindez Island of Argentine Islands, not far from Kiev Peninsula.
Регіон підпадає під територіальні претензії між трьома країнами (більше територіальних претензій в Антарктиді). Єдина українська антарктична станція названа на честь російського та українського мінералога Володимира Вернадського (1863–1945), який був першим президентом Національної академії наук України.

Today’s Doodle shared an interactive doodle and celebrates this historic station, which formally moved from British to Ukrainian control on this day in 1996.
British Faraday Station (Station F)
The Faraday Station existed for 49 years and 31 days (7 January 1947 – 6 February 1996) functioned by FIDS and BAS.
The research base was recognized in 1947 at the Wordie House site on Winter Island by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (today British Antarctic Survey) as Argentine Islands. The primary purpose of the station was to research geophysics, meteorology, and ionospherics.
Cheers to everyone who keeps their cool at the Vernadsky base, thank you for helping to provide a better understanding of our changing planet!
Before being handed over to Ukraine in 1996, the research base for nearly half of century existed as a British research base.
Coordination and operational administration of the base is conducted by the National Antarctic Scientific Center of Ukraine which is part of Ministry of Education and Sciences of Ukraine.
The closest neighboring Antarctic stations are Palmer Station of the United States and Yelcho Base of Chile, reopened in 2015.
Hugh Broughton Architects
Designed by Hugh Broughton Architects with AECOM and constructed by Galliford Try for the British Antarctic Survey.
The base’s personnel work year-round to maintain the station and conduct research on everything from penguin populations to the atmospheric effects of ultraviolet radiation.
Cheers to everyone who keeps their cool at the Vernadsky base, thank you for helping to provide a better understanding of our changing planet!
